You MUST install this from scratch, upgrading from trunk or from 0.8 stable is NOT supported.

This is a preview release of Mahara 0.9 Accio. Things will be broken! Please do not file bug reports, but we are interested to hear your feedback on the new features, through #mahara on freenode, e-mail to dev@mahara.org or the forums on eduforge.

This release includes:

  • Usability work, consisting of:
    • an improved menu structure
    • reworked 'My Friends' section in which you can search for friends
    • Communities renamed to Groups, and the old group concept removed from the system
    • An improved admin user search page
    • The ability to move files and folders around in the 'My Files' section
  • The new Views framework
    • Drag and drop goodness for creating views in a multicolumn layout
    • Works with javascript on or off
    • Contains just a couple of things you can drop on to a view, with more coming in future releases
    • The javascript version is DISABLED in IE6 currently.

As mentioned, there is no supported upgrade path. Attempting to upgrade an existing Mahara will result in a broken system, so do not try this yet.

Likewise, upgrading the debian package will only end in pain for you, not least because the upgrade to ~alpha1 from ~dev is seen as a downgrade by debian. Future releases will use ~alpha instad of ~dev to prevent this.
